NEW ORLEANS, LA (March, 2012) – The National non-profit organization Caps for Kids is proud to announce that National Executive Director, Kathleen McCulla, has been invited to participate in the Navy’s Leaders to Sea Program. Navy Week Leaders to Sea is a program through which key leaders, from all sectors – corporate, civic, government, education, non-profit, and service – embark in a Navy warship at sea. While aboard, embarkees meet the talented young men and women who bring these ships to life, and they experience first-hand how the Navy is contributing to the seK_and_Lex2curity of the United States, and to the stability of the global community.

“My experience aboard the USS George HW Bush was incredible, the men and women serving on this very special ship, are heroes in every right. I am proud to have these sailors representing and protecting our country,” said Kathleen McCulla, National Executive Director of Caps for Kids.

In support of “Caps for Kids”, NAVCO (Navy Office of Community Outreach) helps operational commands reach kids in hospitals throughout the nation. This is done by receiving ball caps from commands and ensuring they get personally delivered in non-Navy areas or by helping commands to establish a relationship with their local hospital.

“We are very proud at Caps for Kids to have such a special relationship with the Navy, these men and women are real Caps for Kids heroes,” added McCulla.

Thousands of sailors and 10 tall ships and modern warships will converge on New Orleans next month, when the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard kick off four years of international events to commemorate the bicentennial of the War of 1812. New Orleans is also the city in which Caps for Kids was founded 19 years ago by Dr. Stephen Heinrich, and where they continue to keep their national offices.

Mammoth Donate 500 Hats to Caps for Kids Program at St. Luke's Childrens Hospital

April 12, 2011 DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth and Altitude Authentics, the team store at Pepsi Center, donated 500 hats today to the local chapter of Caps For Kids, an international non-profit organization that gives caps signed by athletes, entertainers and other notable celebrities to pediatric cancer patients. Mammoth forward John Grant Jr., transition player Nick Carlson and Head Coach Bob Hamley, as well as members of the Wild Bunch dance team, put smiles on children’s faces earlier today during the hat donation at HealthONE’s Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at P/SL.

“It’s the ultimate thrill of being a professional athlete, being able to make a child’s day a little bit brighter,” said Grant, who leads the team in goals and assists. “I cherish every opportunity we have to make a difference in the local community.”

The Mammoth-branded hats were distributed today to current pediatric cancer patients at the hospital, while the remaining hats will be given out in the future. Kara Hellums, the Child Life Specialist at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at P/SL, who also oversees the local Caps for Kids chapter, said the visit was a memorable one for the children.

“Having the players [here] was so much fun. It is always good to break up the monotony of a day in the hospital for these children and the Mammoth players, coaches and dancers went above and beyond to create a special and memorable day for our patients.”

The Mammoth and Altitude Authentics recently announced that they would donate the hats as part of the team’s initiative to ‘Lacrosse Out Cancer’.
