Fewer than 200,000 cases of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia are diagnosed in the U.S. every year. At the age of 17, a kind, brave and determined girl named Aimee from California became one of that number. The diagnosis means chemotherapy. It can also mean losing your hair, not something any young girl should have to deal with. That’s where Caps for Kids comes in.

When Aimee had to choose a Cap Hero, someone to sign the cap she would wear throughout her therapy, it took her like five seconds to decide. Aimee has always loved Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame. While Aimee has always enjoys Miranda’s work, she is also inspired by his activism – for what’s been called “his optimistic notion of a rich, diverse America.”

For Aimee, the cap serves as a reminder that better times are ahead.

“The cap really meant a lot to her. It made her whole month!” – Aimee’s parent
