I Gotta Dream So I Can’t Stop Now.

Name: Evelyn (“Evie”)

Interests: Watching SpongeBob, Teen Titans and Spider-Man on TV, playing video games and Minecraft, and reading Captain Underpants and Spider-Man

Diagnosis: Embryonal Neoplasm

Cap Hero: Spider-Man

In 2017, Evie was diagnosed with embryonal neoplasm and has had to undergo three brain surgeries. Today, in spite of all she’s been through, Evie is a sweet, shy and kind child who likes to joke and be silly.

Since the age of three, Evie has had long hair – she never allowed her mom to cut more than split ends. After her first surgery, when matts and tangles had to be cut out and her hair evened out, Evie grieved. Naturally, she was saddened to learn her hair would fall out as a result of radiation and chemotherapy.

When asked who she’d like be her Cap Hero, Evie asked for “Spidey.” Her mom says knowing she can wear this super-cool cap signed by her biggest hero comforts Evie who “grooves” to the Spider-Man Into the Multiverse soundtrack almost every day. Her mother thinks this is because so many of the songs are about being courageous and strong, like this lyric from Invisible:

I wanna fly right now

I wanna see all my homies get down

I wanna feel like I can’t come down

I got a dream so I can’t stop now.

“Evie has shown us what it looks like to be fearless and faithful. I am humbled by her spirit and by the love of others who have rallied to our side.” – Evelyn’s mom
